In 2005, the planning committee for Georgias Sexual Assault Awareness Month created a statewide
poster contest in which college art students from all over the state were invited to submit images
and art reflecting the story and message behind the Jeans for Justice story. The winners were
design team Tenicia Hallums and Diana Racitti from Kennesaw State University. The team was honored
at GNESAs statewide press conference at the Georgia state capitol and was present at the
proclamation signing with governor Sonny Perdue.
The winning posters were then mass produced and distributed to rape crisis centers around the state
where they were distributed to businesses who participated in Jeans for Justice Day. Realizing
that these creations were more than art but a centerpiece for discussions around many of the issues
surrounding sexual assault in our culture, GNESA has decided to host the contest annually and open
submissions to a nationwide level as a means to seek out the creativity of young activists and
artists to showcase their skill and awareness of sexual assault issues in their community.
